Our six week courses begin with the facts about smoking and addressing the often heard comments smokers make when they are challenged about their smoking.

Like most addictions the benefits of stopping are not immediate. If you are overweight the pounds don’t immediately drop off; if you are alcoholic or drug dependent the physical and psychological damage isn't immediately repaired the moment you stop or if you are a compulsive addictive gambler your fortunes aren't suddenly restored to you.

We are not here to tell you that you cannot smoke. We are here to help you realise why you smoke, what it does and what prevents you from giving it up.

We know that stopping smoking can be a daunting prospect. Often previous failed attempts convince us that it’s hopeless..

"I’m one of those that just can’t stop"

...we bury our heads in the sand pretending that the physical, psychological and financial effects of smoking aren't really happening!

We can feel bad about smoking, or we can feel bad (for a short while) about not smoking...

Which one would you prefer?

Committing to Quitting.

Each week we confirm our personal pledge to not smoking. We share not only the pitfalls but celebrate the triumphs as we move to that time when there is more pleasure in not smoking than ever there was in smoking.

Along the way, each weekly session will cover many of the issues associated with quitting smoking, as well as techniques to help you cope with them. The following are some examples of what will be covered in your Ready-to-Quit course..

  • Nicotine withdrawal is only a temporary condition.
  • Learning that to smoke took effort.
  • Getting in the right frame of mind. Taking the plunge!
  • Making a public pledge.
  • How difficult can it be?
  • Finding a quit buddy if you want.
  • Relaxation and breathing. The place of anxiety and boredom.
  • Finding a way to feel repulsed. Cigarettes are poison.
  • Which cigarette will kill me? Think about what it is doing to your body.
  • Exercise. Being fit to quit.
  • Reminding ourselves of the long term benefits.
  • Fixing on a long term goal.
  • Is NRT (Nicotine Replacement) ok? (Yes! Anything that moves us nearer our goal is ok)
